At this premier event that brings together more than 5,400 companies from over 70 countries—roughly one hundred of them from the Beijing area—Huairou Science City (HSC) mounted a booth with the theme of translating basic science into medical innovation for a healthier world. The exhibition area was divided into three parts: overview of HSC, sci-tech achievement showcase, and international exchange zone. The panoramic display covered the 37 scientific facilities and platforms deployed across HSC’s five major research pillars (SMILE)—space, matter, information & intelligence, life, and Earth system science—and highlighted large-scale facilities and cutting-edge achievements in life-science fields such as medical imaging, vividly illustrating the science city’s growing appeal to researchers and innovators. The presentation drew a steady stream of professional visitors from around the world.

During the show, representatives of Huairou Science City held preliminary discussions with global med-tech leaders including Siemens Healthineers of Germany, Smith & Nephew of the United Kingdom, and Jazz Pharmaceuticals of Ireland, as well as with key industrial players such as Bürkert (Germany) and Bureau Veritas (France). The two sides explored joint R&D, technology transfer, and market cooperation. Several companies expressed strong interest in leveraging HSC’s major scientific infrastructures for product development and vertical industrial collaboration.
Notably, officials from the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), Switzerland’s export and investment promotion agency, and the Technical University of Munich visited the HSC booth. After learning in detail about the construction progress of HSC, they praised the open-access mechanism of the facility cluster and the vibrant research ecosystem it fosters. Representatives of universities and institutes went further, voicing their desire to cooperate on talent exchange and joint research.
As of the closing day, the HSC booth had fielded inquiries from more than 1,500 organizations. Over 30 institutions and companies—including Siemens Healthineers, Switzerland’s Federal export-promotion agency, the German-Chinese Association for Economy, and the government of Spain’s Castilla y León region—have expressed interest in visiting HSC in the near future to advance cooperation. Several domestic life-science exhibitors also stopped by to discuss possible local landing and technology partnerships.

This debut on the international stage marks a solid step toward turning Huairou Science City into a world-class demonstration zone where strategic science and technology converge. By leveraging MEDICA’s global platform, HSC not only showcased its solid progress in basic research but also demonstrated its commitment to “going global,” linking worldwide resources, and engaging in substantive international collaboration. Building on this momentum, Huairou Science City will continue to uphold the principle of open cooperation, deepen communication with global enterprises and institutions, and advance science and technology in service of human health and sustainable development.
