This year’s event brought together 58 teams from 46 countries and regions, including 41 international teams and 17 domestic teams (covering Hong Kong and Macao), totaling over 500 Chinese and international students, teachers, and coaches gathering by Yanqi Lake—a record high in scale. A grand academic exchange event for youth united by mathematics officially kicked off.

Guests attending the opening ceremony include: Renowned mathematician, Fields Medalist, President of Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA), and IMSC Chair Shing-Tung Yau, Secretary of the CPC Huairou District Committee and Secretary of the Huairou Science City (HSC) Work Committee Zhang Qiang, Deputy Director-General of the Children & Youth Science Center of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Wang Songguang, Member of the Standing Committee and Director-General of the General Office of the CPC Huairou District Committee Ji Xuewei, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Huairou District Committee, Deputy District Mayor, Member of the HSC Work Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Administrative Committee of Beijing Huairou Science City Lan Xiongjing, Member of the HSC Work Committee, Vice Chairman of the Administrative Committee of Beijing Huairou Science City, and Deputy District Mayor Han Jian, General Manager of Beijing Jiugongshan Great Wall Memorial Forest Co., Ltd. Li Zun, and Vice Presidents of BIMSA Zhu Yi and Wu Rongling.
In his address, Mr. Shing-Tung Yau welcomed students from around the world. He hoped that the participants would use mathematics as a bond and friendship as a bridge to meet like-minded peers, enhance exchanges and mutual understanding with youth from different countries and regions, spark inspiration through the collision of ideas, and grow together through cooperation. Secretary Zhang Qiang expressed his sincere hope that young friends would always maintain their passion for mathematics, bravely scale the heights of math, explore the unknowns of science, and in the near future participate in the construction of Huairou Science City to jointly advance the cause of human science and technology. The two leaders then jointly declared the official opening of this year’s summer camp.
Cezar Lupu, IMSC’s academic director, gave a detailed introduction to the overall schedule, teaching plan, and competition rules. An international coaching team of 20 mathematicians from China, the United States, Germany, France, and other countries was formed, including recipients of the Frontiers of Science Award at the International Congress of Basic Science, experienced gold medalists in international math competitions, and core contributors to classic disciplinary reference works. The 58 teams took the stage one by one, with members full of energy and high spirits, demonstrating the positive and upward-looking demeanor of contemporary youth. Liu Zhe, an outstanding former camper, shared his gains and reflections from participating in the camp, saying, “All along, IMSC has been more than just an intensive training session for me—it is an open platform for cross-cultural exchange and the collision of ideas.”
