In November 2025, the Beijing High-End Scientific Instruments and Sensors Conference was held in Huairou, co-hosted by the Chinese Institute of Electronics and the Administrative Committee of Huairou Science City. At the conference, Advanced Scientific Instruments (ASI), China's first independently launched English international journal in the field of scientific instruments, was officially launched. Concurrently, the conference also released the planning scheme and major achievements of the Beijing high-end scientific instrument and sensor industry cluster, explicitly designating the core area of Huairou Science City as a leading national hub for the high-end scientific instrument and sensor industry.
The establishment of Advanced Scientific Instruments resonates with Huairou Science City's accelerated development goal of building a high-end scientific instrument and sensor industry cluster.
Supervised by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and sponsored by Science Press, the English open-access journal Advanced Scientific Instruments (ASI), jointly published by Science China Press and KeAi, has officially launched its inaugural issue. According to reports, this is the first international academic journal independently founded by China focusing on the field of scientific instruments.

For a long time, academic publishing resources in the global scientific instruments field have been relatively concentrated. As a major research output country, China has lacked an independently operated high-end academic exchange platform with international influence. Advanced Scientific Instruments has established a development approach of "first establishing a domestic foothold, then radiating globally," assembling an editorial board centered on well-known domestic experts in relevant fields, incorporating Chinese and internationally renowned scholars, and specially inviting R&D leaders from domestic industry-leading enterprises such as CIQTEK and United Imaging Healthcare to join, promoting deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application. This lays the foundation for gradually expanding the international editorial board scale and continuously enhancing international influence.
The journal is edited by Professor Wu Kai of Peking University. Wu has long been engaged in the development of high-end research instruments and is an expert in China's scientific instruments field. He has presided over national major research instrument development projects and published over 200 papers in international academic journals. In his inaugural editorial, he stated that he will strive to build Advanced Scientific Instruments into an academic exchange platform in the instrument field and promote the innovative development of instrument science and technology.
The inaugural issue of Advanced Scientific Instruments brings together representative research achievements from the global scientific instruments field, including 10 high-quality papers covering multiple frontier research directions such as instrument development, microscopy technology, sensing and measurement, and data analysis. Authors include internationally renowned scholars such as Professor Charles T. Campbell of the University of Washington and Professor Lü Jiong of the National University of Singapore, as well as outstanding domestic research talents such as Professor Lin Junhao of Southern University of Science and Technology. Among them, achievements such as the ultrafast transmission electron microscope and transient spectroscopy multimodal detection system from the team of Professor Fu Xuewen of Nankai University, and the in situ polarization-resolved magneto-infrared spectroscopy device under high magnetic fields from the team of Professor Yuan Xiang of East China Normal University, demonstrate the frontier research level in this field.
It is understood that Advanced Scientific Instruments is a quarterly journal adopting an open-access publishing model. Article processing charges will be waived for authors during the first three years of publication, lowering the barrier to disseminating research achievements. The journal strictly implements an international peer review system to ensure the academic quality of published achievements, and is committed to efficiently disseminating high-quality research results in the global scientific instruments field.
Advanced Scientific Instruments has built an academic exchange and achievement release platform for researchers in the scientific instruments field at home and abroad, facilitating academic exchange and technological collaboration in the field. In the future, the journal will continue to gather global scientific research forces, serve the innovative development of high-end research instruments, and promote international academic cooperation.
