Recently, Prof. Chen Wei, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore (NUS), led a special one-and-a-half-day study visit to Beijing’s Huairou Science City.During the visit, they were accompanied by staff members from Huairou Science City Administrative Committee, Huairou District Bureau of Talent Service and Huairou Science City Development and Construction Company. The two sides held wide-ranging talks on major research infrastructures sharing, joint innovation and talent training, and efficient commercialization, sketching a blueprint for cooperation.
Focus on frontier innovation: touring the sci-tech facilities
On day one the delegation visited the High Energy Photon Source, Platform of Materials Genome Research, Clean Energy Material Testing and Diagnostics R&D Platform, Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility, Research & Testing Platform for Molecular Materials and Devices, Beijing Molecular Science Interdisciplinary Research Platform, Peking University Interdisciplinary Institute of Light-Element Quantum Materials, Synfuels China, and the New-Quality Productivity Exhibition Hall.During their visit, the Singaporean guests commended the high-standard, well-managed facilities and acknowledged Huairou’s commitment to creating a world-class hub for original innovation, supported by a full-chain system that connects infrastructure, fundamental research, technological breakthroughs, and industrial applications.

Deepening strategic synergy for the future of science and technology
In the open discussion session, the two sides engaged in substantive exchanges on future collaboration, including joint research, scholar visits, student programs, and the translation of research results into real-world applications. This visit represents another step forward following the signing of a memorandum of cooperation last year and an online seminar on shared research facilities earlier this year. Looking ahead, both parties will use this visit as a springboard to accelerate the joint development of R&D platforms, expand talent exchange, and commercialization efforts, with the shared goal of building a science and technology innovation hub of global influence and contributing fresh ideas and strength to the progress of world science and technology.
