Fifteen kilometers north of Huairou town, Qinglong Gorge squeezes the Great Wall, a 59-meter concrete arch dam and a long, tree-lined reservoir into one compact 150-hectare site. A chair-lift climbs to a ridge where the Wall runs across pine-topped peaks; from the same platform a zip-line drops to the lake, and bamboo rafts drift between rocky cliffs and reflected battlements. Pine and oak cover ninety-five percent of the slopes, so the air stays cool even in midsummer. An easy three-kilometer boardwalk links the Ming-period gatehouse to the base of the dam, passing calm bays where children can try hand-paddled boats while adults board a small cruise boat or cast a line for rainbow trout. At the far end of the trail, DOBUCAMP offers tent sites, barbecues and simple mountain food, letting visitors turn a day of gentle hiking, boating and sightseeing into a quiet night under the stars.
